Parish Draw

Parish Fundraising 2016

Dear Parishioners,

I write to thank all who have been involved in our Parish Fundraising Draw over the past year and I thank all who have helped to make it the wonderful success that it has been. As I thank the Parish Draw Committee and all who sold tickets throughout the parish and beyond, I thank too all who bought tickets and all who have helped support our parish fundraising. It’s hard to believe that our ten month draw is so far advanced and as I congratulate all the monthly winners, I wish to remind all that the final monthly draw with the Big Prizes  including a Honda Jazz Car will take place at a Parish Social in The Synod Hall on Sunday 13 December at 6pm.

Our parish draw has been a major success and its profits have helped us to address some of the works that have taken place recently within the parish. Last Autumn, some restoration work took place at St Malachy’s Church which incurred significant costs. Over the last few years and a lot of work has been done in St Patrick’s Cemetery costing approximately £100,000 as well as major investigative and suitability tests in what’s proposed as the new Cemetery and all of this work has cost in the region of £36,000 to date. Work will be ongoing as we move forward with planning for the new Parish Cemetery and the Parish Finance Committee is continuing to progress in relation to trying to secure the land for the development of the new Cemetery. The estimated cost of the proposed works is in the region of £800,000.

Necessary work is also being planned for St Patrick’s Cathedral in the near future and again, there will be considerable costs as a result of this maintenance work. It’s hoped that grant aid will be available to address some of the work.

There are other maintenance works planned for other parish properties in the near future and all of this impacts greatly on our parish finances and resources. It’s important for us to be aware that our parish has been running a deficit over the last few years and whilst our recent fundraising draw has helped to address some of our recent expenditure, the Parish Finance and Draw Committees firmly believe that we must run our draw for another year as we need to continue to plan and build for the future. The Committees are very aware of the ongoing costs associated with the running of such a large parish but they’re particularly mindful of the need to plan for the Cemetery project.

I write therefore to appeal to the generosity of all parishioners once more for your continued support.  The 2016 Parish Draw will be launched in The Synod Hall on Tuesday 12 January at 8pm and it will run from March to December 2016. Large prizes will be are on offer again and further information about the draw will be available in the coming weeks.

I hope that as many parishioners as possible will get behind the draw again and make a concerted effort to support it and in doing so, we will be helping to support the ongoing needs and development of our parish.  I’m very conscious that the people of this parish have risen to so many challenges in the past and I have every confidence that I can count on your support again and with the goodwill and determination of our people, that we will again achieve our goals.

Rev Peter McAnenly Adm
